Sunny, summer days in SoCal often mean shorts, tanks, and sandals for most folks. However, I prefer to serve a little slice of double denim with jeans and a custom denim jacket. It'd be wiser to opt for lightweight layers but some days, I refuse to surrender my fashion fantasy to the California heat. Two-Tone denim ranks number one in my most favorite 2019 trends, largely thanks to Junya Watanabe's Spring 2019 collection which focuses on eye-catching patchwork denim pieces in unconventionally stunning silhouettes. With this outfit, I was aiming for a relaxed Candian tuxedo but in an American, Calvin Klein kind of way. On a side note, ever wondered where the term "Candian tuxedo" originated from? According to this article I briefly found via Google, the term was coined after a Vancouver hotel in 1951 failed to recognize Bing Crosby and denied him entry because he was wearing jeans with a denim jacket; the antithesis of the upper class during that era. In response to the story, designers at Levi's created a custom denim ensemble featuring the classic 501 jeans and a denim tuxedo jacket, complete with a very cheeky interior leather patch that stated "Notice to All Hotel Men." Thus, the OG Candian Tuxedo was born to bless all of us who are not worthy of such an underrated treasure.
