New Love
Last week I visited an old love which felt like a new love: Southern California. My trip to the golden state for the first time since moving to New York gave me a new and more appreciative view of the west coast. For one thing, it pains me to admit that I definitely took warmer winters for granted all those years I lived in Cali. I now consider it a luxury being able to forgo heat tech pants and 3 jackets in January without freezing to death. This outfit was worn while walking the streets of Old Pasadena with some loved ones. Along with going to lunch at a really awesome vegan restaurant and picking up some coffee afterward, we strolled to where they filmed the city hall for Parks and Recreation (shoutout to my fellow Parks and Rec fans). We also stumbled upon a random ping pong table on the way (sadly not featured here).
As far as the outfit goes, I'm still forever obsessed with the black and white + a pop of color combo. What strikes me the most about this striped blouse is the mix of vertical and horizontal stripes. Although I got down with the assorted color stripes trend that emerged last year, I'm hoping the vertical/ horizontal stripe-mix look becomes a thing in 2019 because I would be 100% here for it. Even if the trend doesn't catch on, I will keep rocking this top as a layering piece for the cold spells ahead in NY (that I'm still not super prepared for).
All in all, this afternoon in Pasadena reminded me of how much I really do enjoy the more relaxed, slower pace southern California provides. While the hustle and bustle of NY still excites and inspires me, I'll always find comfort in the more low-key ways of my home state.
