Roller

Frolicking in a frock behind Old Town buildings post-work as I shoot these pics. With this outfit, I strive to pay tribute to Anna Sui's Fall/Winter 2018-2019 collection, one of my most beloved out of NYFW. Rich in different prints, colors and textures intermingling with one another, the collection is sensational eye candy that leaves me in an internal fashion frenzy. Not only does Anna Sui play with contrasting patterns with her designs; She also experiments with seemingly contradictory tones in her garment choices. Take this look modeled by Janice Alida for example. The matching coat and dress have a sophisticated retro feel, like what a secretary from the 70's might have worn. But then the outfit takes an unexpected but refreshing turn with the fishnet tights, which during the late 70's/early 80's were almost exclusively a staple of goth fashion. Even today fishnets are typically styled in a "rocker" way underneath distressed denim shorts or jeans. The juxtaposition of tamed (the dress) and wild (the tights) captures my attention more than any other. It's like the upper half of the ensemble says, "I'm cool n' classy boss lady" and the lower half is like, "but I've got a wild side and I ain't afraid to flaunt it ;)". Plus the vintage-esque broach, earrings and bow scarf surrounding the sleek shades further add to the "refined but edgy" feel I find so endearing. While I was wearing this I kept thinking to myself, "What if I actually wore this whole outfit to a secretary job in 1977?" On the grounds of "unprofessionalism" due to the "risqué" tights, I might have been fired but at least I would have looked fire making my final exit. ✨
